Background of the Study
Sports journalism is a vital segment of the media industry, focusing on reporting, analyzing, and promoting sports activities. In Bida Local Government Area (LGA), Niger State, local sports talent often remains underrepresented in mainstream media, limiting opportunities for recognition and development. Sports journalism can bridge this gap by showcasing local talent, promoting grassroots sports initiatives, and engaging the community. Adebisi and Musa (2023) emphasize the role of media in creating platforms for emerging athletes. This study examines the role of sports journalism in promoting local sports talent in Bida LGA, exploring its contributions, challenges, and potential for growth.

1.2 Statement of the Problem
Despite the abundance of local sports talent in Bida LGA, inadequate media coverage limits their visibility and opportunities for growth. Sports journalists often face challenges such as lack of resources, limited access to events, and editorial priorities that favor national or international sports. This study investigates how sports journalism can effectively promote local sports talent in Bida LGA, identifying strategies to overcome these challenges.
